How to save a Gemini chat as a PDF (or print it)

You had a good conversation with Gemini, a trip plan, a study guide, a long back and forth that finally got somewhere, and now you want to keep it. Gemini doesn't give you a button to export a Gemini chat to PDF, the whole thing, in one go. The PrintFriendly extension adds one: a Save as PDF button at the top of the chat saves a Gemini chat as a PDF, every message of it, and a small icon under each answer saves just that one.

How to export a whole Gemini chat

1. Install the extension and open your chat on gemini.google.com.
2. Click Save as PDF at the top right of the chat.
3. The chat opens in PrintFriendly View, laid out like a conversation: your prompts in bubbles, Gemini's answers at full width.
4. Delete mode is already on, so click anything you don't want to remove it. Each click takes out one block, like a paragraph or an image.
5. Click PDF to save it, or Print for paper.

The first time: the buttons on Gemini are off until you ask for them. Click the PrintFriendly button in your browser's toolbar, choose PrintFriendly View, and a small panel offers to Add Save as PDF to Gemini. Click Add the button (and allow it if your browser asks). You can also switch it on later in the extension's Settings, under Where PrintFriendly Appears: open Choose sites and turn on Gemini.

If you'd rather not have a button on the page at all, the toolbar button does the same job. Click it, choose PrintFriendly View, and you get the same conversation.

Save just one answer

Sometimes you only want the recipe, the packing list or the table, not the twenty messages it took to get there. Look in the row of buttons under an answer for the PrintFriendly icon and click it. You get that answer with the prompt you asked right before it, and nothing else from the chat.

From there it's the same: remove anything you don't need, then PDF or Print.

What comes through

• The whole chat, even a long one. Gemini loads long conversations a piece at a time as you scroll. The Save as PDF button at the top still gets you every turn, from the first prompt to the last answer, wherever you happen to be scrolled.
• Tables, lists and code. They keep their shape, so a comparison table still reads as a table and a code block stays a code block.
• Math you can read. Fractions, square roots and exponents come out as plain readable text, like 17/100, instead of a jumble of numbers.
• Sources. When Gemini used the web, each answer ends with a short "Sources" line naming the sites, linked to them.
• Images Gemini made. Generated pictures come along with the answer they belong to.

The buttons, the menus and Gemini's other controls stay out of it. You get the conversation, not the app around it.

Gemini share links

If someone sent you a Gemini share link, open it and click the PrintFriendly button in your browser's toolbar, then choose PrintFriendly View. You get the shared conversation, prompts and answers, with its own title on top instead of a generic "Gemini" heading.

What Gemini does on its own

Gemini can send a single answer to Google Docs, and Google Takeout will download your activity, but neither gives you the conversation as a readable PDF in one step.
