iPhone and iPad App
Using the iPhone and iPad App
Printing or Saving a Page
- On Home, search the web or paste a link. If you have just copied a link, Home offers to open it.
- When the page loads, tap Print & PDF at the bottom of the screen (at the top on an iPad). The page opens without its ads, menus and pop-ups.
- Tap anything you do not want to delete it, then tap Print or PDF.
The clean page has the same tools as the browser extensions: text size, Listen, Highlight, Create Post and the rest, described in What It Can Do. Screenshots are the exception: use PrintFriendly in Safari for those. Swipe down from the top of the clean page to go back to the page.
From Another App
Reading something in Chrome, Mail, News or any other app? Tap Share, then PrintFriendly in the row of apps. The page opens clean, ready to print or save, without leaving the app you were in. This is also how to use PrintFriendly with Chrome on an iPhone, which cannot run extensions.
Your Library
PDFs you save go to the Library tab, newest first, along with Word and Markdown files. Search them, tap one to open it, and share, print or delete it from there. Tap Select to delete several at once.
The same files are in the Files app, under On My iPhone (or On My iPad), in the PrintFriendly folder. Deleting a file in the app removes it from the device.
PrintFriendly in Safari
The app also puts PrintFriendly in Safari. Turn it on once, and it is in Safari's address bar on every page.
- In the app, tap Turn On in Safari, which opens Settings. Turn on Allow Extension, then tap PrintFriendly at the top left to come back.
- In Safari, tap the Page Menu button in the address bar, then Print, Screenshots & AI Tools. On an iPad it is under the Extensions button instead.
No Turn On in Safari button?
Your Account
Printing and saving PDFs need no account. Sign in with the account button on Home to email pages, use Clean Up and Summarize, and save to your cloud drives. Delete Account is at the bottom of Settings.
Words you type instead of a link are searched with Google. Pick another search engine in Settings, under Search Engine.
Common Questions
The app says it doesn't open this site#
PrintFriendly does not open some sites in its own browser, like ones for adults or ones known to be unsafe, or sites without a secure (https) connection. Tap Open in Safari and use PrintFriendly there.
I only see a setup screen, not Home or the Library#
The full app needs iOS 17 or later. On older versions it sets up PrintFriendly in Safari, which works the same way as on a current iPhone.
Is there a Mac app?#
On a Mac, PrintFriendly is a Safari extension from the Mac App Store; its app only switches it on. Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a Mac have their own extensions. See Browser Extensions.
